On Saturday of 12th April 2008, Grandpa passed on to be with the Lord. It has been rough and sad journey for all of us. Nonetheless, there were tears along the way. Grandpa was sent to the hospital a few weeks ago because he had suffered his 4th stroke. Slowly, he started to recover. However, at that crucial stage of recovery, something misfortunate happened. The nurse had given him an overdose, 10 times the normal amount, which sent him to the ICU. The doctor had said that Grandpa had an extremely slim chance of recovering because his brain was already severely impaired. As a result of that, the doctors decided to remove all supporting systems from his body, letting him breathe on his own. We were informed that he might breathe his last anytime and we should be prepared for it. A few days passed and Grandpa finally could take it no longer. At 5 am, we rushed to the hospital, only to find Grandpa already stopped breathing a few minutes ago. After a few hours of crying and sobbing, the doctor finally told us that we had to say our last goodbyes to Grandpa as they were going to take him away. At this point, I sobbed uncontrollably. It was difficult to keep it all in...
Just yesterday, Grandpa's body was cremated. Friends and relatives attended this ceremony to pay their final respects to Grandpa.
I do miss him, even though I wasn't that close to him. We seldom talked because he spent most of the time in bed. But something funny happened - on the day before he was sent to the hopital, we had a 30 minute chat in his bedroom. Debbie and I wanted to play cards, so we went to his bedroom to get it. When we were about to get out, we saw Grandpa opening his eyes. "Hello!" we said. After that, we started talking and talking. How funny that was?! Maybe the Lord wanted us to have this conversation with him for rememberance...
To my beloved and belated Granpa, I will always remember you as a soft-spoken and loving grandfather...
